Sizzling in Albuquerque

The weather hit 100 degrees, a record for the date and earliest triple digit heat in Albuquerque history, and the winds howled.   But Great Southwest athletes hung up meet records and US#1 performances on Saturday.

Wade Meddles NV - doubled in 1500 and 3200 in 4:02.80 and 9:25.61
Pat Zacharias NM - won the 2k steeple in 6:12.44 US#6, overcoming US#3 Texas Relays winner Derwin Graham (6:18.93).
Boys Pole Vault - Andreas Duplantis LA 16-6 and Casey Wicker TX tied at 16-6.  Neither made 17-0 and Wicker was injured falling in the box so a jumpoff was not possible.
Kelsey Brown UT - won the 800 in 2:13.02 over heptathlon winner Eleanor Fulton (2:13.43)
Michaela Palu TX - won high jump at 5-10 (she is US#2 at 6-0)
Jill Rushin MO - won shot put at 46-10.75 US#1 Kearsten Peoples KS failed to make the finals after fouling twice and throwing only 35-0.25, more than 16 feet below her nation's best throw.
