Samuels wins 2 for Vance; Wakefield's relays shine; Eley-O'Reilly 53.43 400
3A: Presson leads Asheville effort; Butts, Wyatt pace South Central
4A HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Jarrett Samuels leapt 23-09 LJ (+1.7w) and ran 48.12 400 (dnf in 200) to lead 4A boys champions Z.B. Vance. The team also won the 4x2 (1:27.73) and was 2nd in the 4x1 and 4x8
- Wakefield took the 4A girls crown, winning the 4x400 in 3:49.83 to clinch it after taking the 4x200 earlier (1:40.13), and adding several lower placings
- The best mark of the day went to Jack Britt sr Sanura Eley-O’Reilly, who blazed to a US#4 53.43 400
- Clayton jr Keni Harrison 14.56 100H (+0.2w) / US#12 42.53 300H
- SE Raleigh sr Steven Bell 48-10 TJ (+1.4w) / 6-06 HJ / leg on 3:16.29 4x400 winners
- Knightdale jr Mar-Keo Jones 10.86 100 (+) / 21.68 200 (-2.1w) double, plus leg on winning 4x100
- Southwest Guilford soph Shemiah Brooks 39-10 TJ (nwi)
- Broughton boys 7:49.33 4x800
- Northern Durham sr Blake Williams 4:13.11 1600, 2nd by .04 in 800
- Millbrook soph Samantha George topped T.C. Roberson sr Laura Hoer in the 1600, 4:55.67-4:57.79, but Hoer came back to take the 3200 in 10:46.29
- Panther Creek sr Cassie Crawford 12-06 PV
- Parkland sr Jessica Morgan 18-09.50w LJ (+2.7) over SE Raleigh jr Dannielle Davis (same distance)
3A HIGHLIGHTS
- Asheville sr Issac Presson led his team to the 3A boys title with his hand in 36 points. He doubled the 1600 (4:15.99) and 800 (1:52.07), anchored his team’s 7:49.04 runner-up 4x800 (est. 1:52) and was 2nd in the 3200 in 9:23.25
- Eastern Alamance sr anchor Jake Hurysz was the athlete who outlasted Presson in the boys 4x800 (also est. 1;52) leading his team to a 7:48.48. He came back and won the 3200 in 9:11.88
- South Central jr Danielle Butts played a huge role in her team's 3A girls title effort, with a field event double - 39-01 TJ (0.0w) / 5-06 HJ - and legs on both winning relays
- North Gaston sr Maleena Reid doubled the 100 (11.92, -0.1w) and 200 (24.91, -1.3w). The 200 win came after prelims where Reid ran 24.75 (-0.6w) in one heat and South Central jr Bryana Wyatt 24.37 (+0.2w) in the other, but Wyatt was just 6th in the final
- Wyatt, however, anchored South Central’s dominating 1:39.32 4x200 and 46.94 4x100 efforts in the relays, and was 2nd in the 100 as well, joining Butts in a leading role for the champs
- Crest boys rolled to 1:26.64 4x200, winning by 2+ seconds, then won 4x1 in 42.15. Crest jr Kendall Kee, on both relays, also won the 100 and was 2nd in the 200
- Douglas Byrd jr Eric Winfrey doubled the 400 (47.51) and 200 (21.58, -1.6w) 400. Following in the 400 were Eastern Alamance sr Kyle Miles (47.98) and Southern Guilford frosh Xavier Jones (48.18)
- Weddington sr Breahna Morrison 55.69 400 over Douglas Byrd soph Naomi Alston (56.22). Morrison was also 2nd in the 200, 4th in the 100
- South Brunswick jr Ryan Minor 58-10.50 SP
- A. L. Brown sr Tavis Bailey 185-01 DT
- Asheville jr Daisaun White 48-04 TJ (+1.9w)
- West Rowan soph Daishon Barger 14.39 110H (-2.0w)
2A HIGHLIGHTS
- Salisbury jr Romar Morris won the 100 (10.54, +1.0) and 200 (21.47, +1.0w) to lead Salisbury to the boys 2A title.
- Cummings' Kortney Williams doubled the TJ (37-01, +0.0w) and 100H (14.66 100H, +0.7w), was 4th in the LJ, and ran a leg on the 3rd place 4x1 as her team took the girls 2A crown. Cummings also won the 4x400, and had Francesca Evans win the 300H and get a pair of thirds
- East Burke sr Tanner Anderson (already US#2 at 7-03.25) soars to 7-02.50 in the HJ
- Granville Central's Briana Haith tripled with 24.33 200 (+1.9w) / 55.76 400 / 17-11 LJ (-1.4w, with three others at 17-09 or further), plus 2nd in 100
- Starmount sr Aaron Combs 1:53.40 800 to win by 4.61 seconds
- Starmount jr Antonio McCelland doubled the LJ (22-07, -1.8w) and TJ (45-08.50, -0.4w)
- Wilkes Central sr Chase Miller doubled the 1600 and 3200 (10:04.00)
1A HIGHLIGHTS
- North Rowan took the girls 1A title, with Teaunna Cuthbertson doubling the LJ 19-03.25w (+2.6) and 100H 15.14 (-1.0w), and running a leg on the winning 4x1 (North Rowan also won 4x2, 3rd in 4x4)
- NC Science and Math held on to beat Hendersonville for the boys 1A title, 58 to 57.83. NC Science and Math was also a close 2nd in the girls race
- Monroe's Issac Blakeney doubled the TJ (49-02w, +2.2) and LJ (22-09.50w, +3.1)
- Princeton's T.J. Wilson 14.39 110H (+0.3w) / 38.58 300H double
- Monroe's Jamie Glenn 38-01 TJ (+1.9w)
- Highlands Tech's Aaron Tribble 48.40 400
- East Wilkes' Carol Blankenship 5:06.62 1600 / 11:29.54 3200 double (+ 3rd in 800)
- Mt. Airy's Matus Kriska 4:33.89 1600 / 1:59.40 800 double
